1 Newton, A. Edward The Amenities of Book-Collecting and Kindred Affections (Association copy inscribed by the author and by Bruce Rogers)
Boston Atlantic Monthly Press 1918 First Edition; First Printing Hardcover Very Good with no dust jacket
Inscribed by Bruce Rogers to Charles E. Sayle, dated July 1, 1919. Rogers was considered by many to be the "greatest book designer of the twentieth century." Sayle was a poet, scholar and the library at the Cambridge University Library. A. Edward Newton has written an inscription dated October 3, 1920, apparently also to Sayle: "How amazing it is to see this little book in this great country." On October 7, 1924, the book was presented to Percy L Babington by A. T. (Augustus Theodore) Bartholomew. Babington was the biographer of John A. Symonds, 19th C. English poet and literary critic. Bartholomew was the librarian at the University Library at Cambridge for over 25 years, and spent nine of those years cataloguing Lord Acton's donation. He also was a bibliographer who co-authored "The Samuel Butler Collection at St. John's College, Cambridge. Bartholomew's personal bookplate is affixed to the front pastedown as is the bookplate of collector Robert Hall. A fascinating set of signatures and associations and an important book on collecting.
