Originally published in 1682, this is the author's account of her capture, captivity and ultimate release by Indians. Most interestingly this copy is inscribed (presumably a gift inscription from a friend) "To Charles H. Berray, Who is a descendant in the 9th generation from the author of this book, Mrs. Mary White Rowlandson." There is a complete, carefully hand-printed genealogy from Mrs. Rowlandson to Mr. Berray on page 82, at the end of the Appendix listing the various editions of the book.
